Bulgaria becomes attractive destination for outsourcing of clothing

The outsourcing of textile and clothing production nowadays is hindered by a number of negative factors: uneven demand, high raw material prices, high energy prices, and inflation are the four major concerns of the global textile industry for the next six months.

Concerns about geopolitics have also increased significantly in the past months. High transport costs also play a major role.

The combination of these factors make Bulgaria more and more attractive destination for manufacturing outsourcing of clothing. At the same time the export potential of the Bulgarian textile industry is growing.

More leading European and American clothing manufacturers choose Bulgaria for its fashion outsourcing placing Bulgaria's textile industry is at the forefront of its economic profile. During the last ten years, the export of textile materials and products marked the largest increase (more than 4.5 times). Clothing outsourcing nearshore is on the rise which benefit further the country’s textile sector.

Bulgaria has long-lasting traditions in clothing manufacturing and it’s workforce is highly skilled & experienced with the machinery, fashion design and all modern technologies in the sector. With Bulgaria’s entry into the European Union, foreign clothing firms have benefited from lower administrative costs and duties.

Besides, Bulgaria borders Turkey, which is a leading supplier of raw materials. Companies that prefer getting their raw materials from Turkey will have an added advantage by setting base in Bulgaria. Also, the average wage in the clothing industry is quite reasonable for companies looking to cut down production costs.

Since the year 2000 Bulgarian knitwear and non-knitwear production exports have increased to Spain - more than 6 times, to Turkey - almost 5 times, to the United Kingdom - more than 3 times. Bulgaria imports Cotton wool, synthetic or man-made staple fibers and threads, tricot fabrics and tricot clothing. Italy supplies wool, cotton, staple synthetic or artificial fibers and threads and yarns.

Garment outsourcing or apparel outsourcing will continue to play a major role in company development and competitive advantage building making outsourcing to Bulgaria a more attractive option which in turn will make the country capacity, technological advancement and efficiency higher lower its production costs.
